Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
